Each of our classes at Sport4Kids by Dr Mark Gould are designed around the developmental milestones in children's cognitive, social and physical development. Find out more below:
S4K Toddlers (15m to 3 yrs)
Our Toddler classes are the perfect intro to sports, classes are fun and there is a story theme each week – it is a great bonding experience between parent and child. Toddlers are able to join in as soon as they can walk and listen to instructions. Parents take part in the class at all times with their child. It’s typical to see 30% participation in their first class – as they get used to a new experience and class setting; we aim for them to be able to score a few goals by the end of their first class! It takes on average 4-6 weeks for Toddlers to grow in confidence in the class. You will see their independence flourish week after week!
S4K Kickers (3-4.5 yrs)
Our Kickers’ classes focus on the 5 main areas of: control, dribbling, trickery, passing and goal scoring. During our class, your child will participate in imagination led activities in line with our theme of the month as we start to nurture techniacl football skills. All lessons include a warm up, skill to learn, dribbling activity and close with lots of goals and wild celebrations. Your child will also grow in confidence and are encouraged to communicate with their team as they progress.
S4K Strikers (4.5 to 6 yrs)
Strikers experience a rapid development in their skills and maturity as sports players and team members. They get to combine and hone their skills in exciting games and activities that help them develop their touch, sense of space, movement and their positions on the pitch. They learn to defend, attack, pass and move in small sided games or 3v3 and 4v4. Classes are fully inclusive - every child will be involved and developing at every lesson. The next stage after 6 years old – is to join our Academy Classes!
S4K Academy (6+ yrs)
Our S4K Academy classes build on the skills learned in Strikers and allow players to participate in full match situations.
The Academy sessions are split into three segments: technical skill development, small sided games and match preparation.
Players are encouraged to use their skills to beat opponents and creativity is praised at every avenue. The S4K Academy also offers players the chance to play in the S4K Footbal Club against other teams in local registered leagues.

What happens at a S4K by Dr Mark Gould session?Great question! It actually depends a little on the age group so: Toddlers (15m to 3 yrs) and Kickers (3 to 4.5 yrs) These groups roughly follow the same structure but with different development content. The lesson will begin with families being welcomed by our team and engaging in some free play while everyone arrives. Once everyone is in the room, we will welcome all of the children and get to know their names (it's a whole fun routine) before getting into our warm up activities, which are designed to get the pulses raising and burn off some energy. Each month of the year has a different theme, so the activities might involve animals, transport or superheroes (although not all three together...). The warm up helps the little ones concentrate better for the next section, which is our Skill of the Month! Each month of the year we have a focus trickery skill to teach, designed to help the children develop technical balance across left and right feet. Mums and Dads join in with this part fully and our coaching team help the children individually. We then move on to play a story-based game that involves applying the Skill of the Month while learning "little kicks" with the ball. This section involves learning to control a moving ball with both left and right feet. Finally, we end all lessons by scoring a variety of goals (again with left and right) before receiving a big sticker from our coaches in exchange for a big high five! Strikers (4.5 to 6 years) The format of this session is different - we start to play "non-compete" football to transition the players into our Academy and Football Club. The lesson will start with players repeating a set of skills in our superhero warm up, before moving onto our Skill of the Month. Over the course of a month of lessons, children will develop their capabilities with the Skill of the Month - taking it from standing still, to on the move, to beating a defender. We then move onto our technical phase - focusing on passing, dribbling and control of the ball in themed games. Finally, we end the lesson on our in-house designed small sided football matches, which take place with a maximum of 4 v 4 players. We have our own "no pressure" teaching methods and rules, which is very much the secret sauce to how the children develop at S4K. But you'll have to see that for yourself! Lessons end with a debrief, player of the match(es) and stickers all round - making sure every child leaves with a smile.

Do lessons take place indoors or outdoors? This is dependent on weather – in the Summer we aim to be outside as much as possible. Most of our venues have both indoor and outdoor facilities. You will be notified when we start taking the children outside so that you can bring sunscreen and a hat. S4K Academy (6 to 14 years) take place outdoors all year round flood lit, all weather surfaces.
-
Do S4K classes stop for school holidays? We are proud to say we run our classes all your round – we do not stop for half-term or the summer holidays. The only days we don’t run are Christmas Day, Boxing Day & Bank Holidays.
