S4K Diddis (3 to 6 yrs)

The lesson will begin with families being welcomed by our team, being given a tennis racket and a magic ball and having some time to practice our tennis strokes in a dedicated space. Once everyone is in the room, we will welcome all of the children and get to know their names (it's a whole fun routine) before getting into our warm up activities, which are designed to get the pulses raising and burn off some energy. Each month of the year has a different theme, so the activities might involve animals, transport or superheroes (although not all three together...).

We then move onto our Skill of the Month section, which is where we teach the children one of the tennis strokes from our curriculum - Forehand, Backhand, Volley and Serve. We do this by introducing our characters and rhymes that break down the mini and micro motor skills and make them easier to learn. After this, we run an activity that focuses on tennis footwork and adds in multiple tennis strokes in a fun game that follows the same theme as our warm up.

Lastly, we score points with net play - introducing different stages of progression, ranging from the magic ball through to red level foam balls as children become more confident in the tennis strokes. We then say goodbye with a quick recap and stickers for all!

What To Expect

  • Do you offer a trial session?
Absolutely. We feel it is important for everyone to try our classes before committing to sign up. You can book a Free Trial Lesson on this page using the green button - "Book A Trial".
  • What happens at a S4K by Dr Mark Gould session?
Great question! It actually depends a little on the Sport and Age Group so: Football Classes Toddlers (15m to 3 yrs) and Kickers (3 to 4.5 yrs) These groups roughly follow the same structure but with different development content. The lesson will begin with families being welcomed by our team and engaging in some free play while everyone arrives. The warm up helps the little ones concentrate better for the next section, which is our Skill of the Month! Each month of the year we have a focus trickery skill to teach, designed to help the children develop technical balance across left and right feet. Mums and Dads join in with this part fully and our coaching team help the children individually. We then move on to play a story-based game that involves applying the Skill of the Month while learning "little kicks" with the ball. This section involves learning to control a moving ball with both left and right feet. Finally, we end all lessons by scoring a variety of goals (again with left and right) before receiving a big sticker from our coaches in exchange for a big high five! Strikers (4.5 to 6 years) The format of this session is different - we start to play "non-compete" football to transition the players into our Academy and Football Club. The lesson will start with players repeating a set of skills in our superhero warm up, before moving onto our Skill of the Month. Over the course of a month of lessons, children will develop their capabilities with the Skill of the Month - taking it from standing still, to on the move, to beating a defender. We then move onto our technical phase - focusing on passing, dribbling and control of the ball in themed games. Finally, we end the lesson on our in-house designed small sided football matches, which take place with a maximum of 4 v 4 players. We have our own "no pressure" teaching methods and rules, which is very much the secret sauce to how the children develop at S4K. But you'll have to see that for yourself! Lessons end with a debrief, player of the match(es) and stickers all round - making sure every child leaves with a smile. • Do lessons take place indoors or outdoors?
This is dependent on weather – in the Summer we aim to be outside as much as possible. Most of our venues have both indoor and outdoor facilities. You will be notified when we start taking the children outside so that you can bring sunscreen and a hat.
  • Do S4K classes stop for school holidays?
We are proud to say we run our classes all your round – we do not stop for half-term or the summer holidays. The only days we don’t run are Christmas Day, Boxing Day & Bank Holidays.
